New Data on Assisted Hatching in Assisted Reproduction – C.L.A.R. Consulting
C.L.A.R. Consulting shared a post on LinkedIn:
“NEW DATA ON ASSISTED HATCHING IN ASSISTED REPRODUCTION
Assisted hatching (AH) — a technique used in assisted reproduction to help the embryo ‘hatch’ — is the subject of a unique analysis based on 1,678,872 unique embryo transfers from the Japanese Assisted Reproductive Technology Registry.
Key findings:
- LA is extremely widespread: performed in 55% of cases.
- After adjusting for confounding factors, the technique does not improve clinical pregnancy or live birth rates — and may even slightly reduce them.
- It is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage, multiple pregnancy and placenta accreta spectrum.
- However, a modest improvement in outcomes was observed in women < 35 years of age with frozen blastocyst transfers.
What this means for clinical practice:
- AH should not be routinely applied to all patients.
- It could have a targeted role depending on maternal age and cycle type.
- These results, drawn from one of the largest datasets ever analyzed on the subject, highlight the importance of personalized strategies in assisted reproductive technology (ART).
A large retrospective study with a direct impact on recommendations and discussions surrounding ‘add-ons’ in assisted reproductive technology.”
