Caroline Biddle: What Does Good Fertility Support Look Like in Your Organisation?

”Some of your employees are in a complex relationship with work, and chances are you have no idea about it.
This morning I spoke with the wonderful Karen Roberts from North West Employers to record a podcast about fertility treatment and work.
Karen’s first question was:
‘What does fertility treatment look like for someone who’s trying to balance it with work?’
There’s no straightforward answer to this because everyone’s affected differently.
For one woman, work is an escape from the overthinking. A distraction from the grief.
For another, work gets in the way and adds to the pressure.
And one woman can be both of these women at different points in their treatment.
But what they can have in common, and what there is often no escape from, is the additional labour involved in managing fertility treatment alongside work.
- Logistically.
- Emotionally.
- Relationally.
- Physically.
- Financially
It’s a lot. And it’s complicated.
Research has found that managing fertility treatment alongside employment can have a significant impact on women’s quality of life.
