Catalina Cristina Nazare: Overcoming Total Globozoospermia
Catalina Cristina Nazare, Former Embryologist at Gynera Clinic, shared on LinkedIn:
”Overcoming Total Globozoospermia
In cases of total globozoospermia, achieving a blastocyst can seem like an insurmountable challenge. The complete absence of an acrosome in these round-headed sperms means they lack the enzymatic capacity for fertilization.
I am incredibly proud to share a recent case that demonstrates the intersection of advanced clinical science and unwavering patient hope.
The Case Journey:
- 15 Oocytes collected.
- 12 Mature Oocytes identified.
Total fertilization failure was a high risk due to the Globozoospermia. I applied artificial oocyte activation (AOA). - 4 Oocytes Fertilized.
From these four, a miracle occurred.
I am thrilled to present two beautiful blastocysts, now cryopreserved.
Takeaway: Total globozoospermia is a complex and severe form of male infertility, but with specialized techniques it is no longer an absolute barrier.
Congratulations to the courageous couple for emotional victory.”
