Devyanshi Dixit: Placenta – The Organ That Works in Silence

Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health, shared on LinkedIn:

“The placenta: The organ that works in silence.

Before a baby takes its first breath, another organ has already been working tirelessly to support life.

  • It grows during pregnancy.
  • It exchanges oxygen and nutrients.
  • It helps remove waste.
  • It produces hormones that support pregnancy.
  • And it forms a remarkable biological connection between mother and baby.

The placenta is not simply a temporary organ. It is a lifeline.

But its story goes far beyond nourishment.

It helps shape the pregnancy environment.

It participates in immune regulation at the maternal-fetal interface.

Its development and function can offer important clues about maternal health, fetal growth, and pregnancy complications.

Researchers are continuing to explore how placental biology relates to conditions such as preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and preterm birth.

And perhaps one of the most extraordinary things about the placenta is this:

It is temporary in its existence, but profound in its purpose.

For months, it supports a developing life through an intricate exchange of signals, nutrients, hormones, and protection.

Then, after birth, its work comes to an end.

Yet the questions it leaves behind continue to shape maternal and fetal medicine.

What if understanding the placenta more deeply could help us recognize pregnancy complications earlier-and protect two lives through better-informed care?

The more we learn about this remarkable organ, the clearer it becomes that pregnancy is not simply about the growing baby.

It is also about the extraordinary biology that makes that growth possible.

At GFWH 2026, advancing conversations in maternal-fetal medicine, placental biology, and women’s health will have a global stage.”
