Evelyn Ndinda: What are Purposes of the 20th and 24th Week Prenatal Visits?
Evelyn Ndinda, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at The Mpshah Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What are purposes of the 20th and 24th week prenatal visits?
- 20-Week Visit:
This visit is essential for performing a repeat ultrasound, commonly referred to as an anomaly scan. The scan ensures the baby has developed properly.
- 24-Week Visit:
The purpose of this visit is to confirm the pregnancy is progressing well through the second trimester without major challenges. It is a critical time to verify that the mother has begun feeling the baby kick.
While first-time mothers may not feel movement until between 18 and 24 weeks, this visit ensures that the baby is active and that the mother is aware of these movements.”
