“The Bigger the Follicle, the Better the Egg” Myth Explained – Fertility Plus
Fertility Plus shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Here is the myth that circulates with confidence in waiting rooms and online: ‘The bigger the follicle, the better the egg.’ But let’s break it down.
Just like inflating a balloon, there’s a point where more air doesn’t help; it only stretches the walls thinner. The truth? Size matters up to a point! Research shows that the developmental benefit of size plateaus at 15-16mm. Beyond this, bigger isn’t better.
Also, larger follicles (over 2-3cc) can rupture before retrieval, and waiting too long can lead to trapped follicles or cysts. The optimal approach? Trigger when the follicle reaches its best size—not when it’s at its biggest!
At Fertility Plus, we guide you through this process every step of the way. For personalized support, call us at 0800 022 6038 or visit fertilityplus.org.uk.
