HCG Failure and Trigger Strategies in IVF – Fertility Plus
Fertility Plus shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Understanding HCG Failure
In fertility treatments like IVF, understanding the role of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is crucial! This injection triggers the final step of egg maturation and ovulation, mimicking the body’s natural LH surge. However, did you know that in about 3% of cases, it may not work as intended?
This is often due to hCG only mimicking LH without triggering the essential FSH surge. This gap can lead to anovulatory follicles, resulting in fewer or no mature eggs being retrieved.
To improve success rates, many experts recommend a dual trigger approach, combining a GnRH agonist with hCG. This method closely resembles natural hormone surges, enhancing egg retrieval chances! Timing also matters—waiting for follicles to reach 18–20 mm ensures they are ready for rupture when triggered.
With these strategies, failure rates can drop to around 1%! Let’s talk about the journey to parenthood together!”
