Kristen Williams: The Doors to Materna Healthcare Were Opened with the Belief that Women Needed More

Kristen Williams, Founder of Materna Healthcare, shared on LinkedIn։

“One year ago, we opened the doors to Materna Healthcare with a belief:

Women needed more.

  • More support in the weeks between fertility and their first OB appointment.
  • More help when pregnancy became harder than expected.
  • More places to turn before the emergency room.
  • More time to ask questions.
  • More reassurance that what they were feeling mattered.

I knew the gaps existed. What I didn’t know was how many women were waiting for someone to fill them.

One year later, Materna Health is caring for hundreds of women every month.

That still stops me in my tracks.

Because behind that number are women who were scared and needed an ultrasound. Women struggling with hyperemesis who needed somewhere to go. Women navigating pregnancy after infertility or loss. Women who simply needed someone to listen and say, we’re here.

We didn’t build Materna to replace the incredible OBs, MFMs, fertility specialists and other providers caring for women.

We built Materna to stand beside them, and to fill the spaces in between.

There is so much about this first year that I am proud of.

But more than anything, I feel gratitude.

Gratitude to every patient who trusted us.

To every provider who sent us a patient.

To every member of our team who believed this kind of care should exist.

And to every woman who walked through our doors and helped prove that this wasn’t just an idea.

It was a need.

Materna is one year old.

And maybe, because these doors are open, a few more women get to walk through pregnancy a little less alone.

That is everything I hoped we could build.

Happy first birthday, Materna.”
