Laura Potts: 3 Years Ago, I Had My First Endometriosis Surgery – Tomorrow, I Face Another

Laura Potts, Endometriosis Advocate and Founder of Your Endo Events, shared on LinkedIn:

“Three years ago, I had my first endometriosis surgery.

Tomorrow, I face another.

It’s strange how time can feel so long and so short all at once. Three years have passed, yet I can still remember the uncertainty, the fear, and the hope I held onto before that first operation.

But when I look back, I don’t just see the surgeries or the pain.

I see resilience.

I see a version of myself who refused to let endometriosis define her.

Someone who chose to draw on her experience to speak up, raise awareness, and advocate for better conversations about women’s health.

Over the last three years, I’ve had the privilege of sharing my story, connecting with other women, and helping shine a light on a condition that still takes far too long to diagnose and is too often misunderstood.

If even one woman has felt less alone because I spoke openly, then every difficult conversation has been worth it.

Women’s health deserves to be taken seriously. We shouldn’t have to fight to be believed, to access specialist care, or to explain why chronic pain isn’t ‘just part of being a woman.’

Tomorrow’s surgery is another chapter in my journey. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared. But I also know how far I’ve come, and I’m proud of the person this journey has shaped me into.

To everyone living with endometriosis or another invisible illness: I see you. Your pain is real. Your voice matters. And you are stronger than you know.

Here’s to hoping this next step brings healing – not just for me, but that we continue pushing for greater awareness, better research, earlier diagnosis, and improved care for every woman who needs it.

Endometriosis awareness isn’t just about sharing statistics. It’s about sharing stories. Because stories change minds, challenge stigma, and remind people that behind every diagnosis is a person simply trying to live their life.”
