Madhur Hamine: Maharashtra Can Become India’s IVF Medical Value Tourism Capital
Madhur Hamine, Managing Director at Oospheere IVF Services Pvt Ltd, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Maharashtra’s Next Big Opportunity: IVF Medical Value Tourism (IVF-MVT)
India has emerged as one of the world’s most trusted destinations for fertility treatment.
But there is a much larger opportunity waiting to be unlocked.
Maharashtra can become India’s IVF Medical Value Tourism (IVF-MVT) Capital.
The state already possesses most of the ingredients required for success:
- International airports and connectivity
- Strong healthcare infrastructure
- Leading IVF specialists and embryologists
- Globally competitive treatment costs
- Premium hospitality and tourism ecosystem
- Strategic locations like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Konkan
Yet IVF remains largely absent from our Medical Value Tourism strategy.
A dedicated Maharashtra IVF-MVT Policy could help:
- Attract international fertility patients
- Generate high-value healthcare and tourism revenue
- Create skilled employment opportunities
- Promote investments in reproductive healthcare
- Position Maharashtra as a global fertility destination
Key Policy Recommendations
- Dedicated IVF-MVT Cell under Health and Tourism Departments
- Single-window support for international fertility patients
- Accreditation framework for participating IVF centres
- Global branding and promotion of Maharashtra as a fertility destination
- Public-Private Partnerships for IVF ecosystem development
- Integration with hospitality, wellness and tourism sectors
The larger vision goes beyond Maharashtra.
India has the potential to become the Global Fertility Capital, serving patients from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Europe and beyond through a structured National IVF-MVT Mission.
The expertise exists.
The infrastructure exists.
The demand exists.
What is needed now is a policy framework that transforms this opportunity into a globally recognized healthcare and economic growth engine.
I invite stakeholders from the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) Incredible India, Ministry of Tourism, India Health Department Maharashtra, Tourism Department, Maharashtra Tourism MACCIA FICCI Health Services FICCI Confederation of Indian Industry Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India – FOGSI Indian Fertility Society – IFS and the IVF fraternity to initiate this important discussion.
Should Maharashtra take the lead and become the first Indian state to launch a dedicated IVF Medical Value Tourism Policy?”
