Margaret Cali։ Sometimes the Emotional Load of IVF is Not Only about What is Happening Now
Margaret Cali, IVF Readiness Integration Strategist, shared on LinkedIn:
“Sometimes the emotional load of IVF is not only about what is happening now.
It can also be about what the mind is already preparing for.
- What if the cycle is cancelled?
- What if the next phone call brings difficult news?
- What if another decision has to be made?
- What if treatment does not go the way I hope?
Thinking ahead can feel like preparation.
Sometimes it can even feel protective.
As though imagining every possible outcome now might somehow make one of them easier to face later.
But that can mean carrying tomorrow’s possibilities today.
And for women preparing for or moving through IVF, that can quietly add to the emotional load they are already managing.
Emotional readiness is not about eliminating fear.
It is not about becoming perfectly calm.
Sometimes it is simply about noticing when the mind has moved too far ahead and asking:
What actually belongs to today?
- Perhaps today there is one appointment to attend.
- One question to ask.
- One decision to make.
- Or perhaps nothing needs to be solved today at all.
- For those working in fertility care, this may be a useful question to offer:
What are you carrying today that actually belongs to tomorrow?
Sometimes support begins by helping the woman come back to the part she can hold now.”
