Nilofer Husain: ABHI Report Calls for Sustained Action on Women’s Health Inequalities
Nilofer Husain, Consultant Gynaecologist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
” ‘When women suffer, not only do individual women suffer; families suffer, communities suffer, the nation suffers, and the economy suffers.’
I am delighted to see the publication of the ABHI Women’s Health Summit Report 2026 today, following the summit held earlier this year where I had the privilege of participating as a speaker and panelist.
As a frontline Consultant Gynaecologist, I witness daily the immense physical, emotional, social, and economic impact of conditions like uterine fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding, and endometriosis.
The true burden of delayed care is often invisible in performance metrics. Suffering cannot be measured simply in calendar weeks on a waiting list. Delayed care profoundly disrupts a woman’s quality of life, her family, her mental wellbeing, and her career aspirations. Behind every healthcare statistic is a human story.
Women’s health is not just a healthcare issue—it is a societal and economic imperative that deserves sustained attention, investment, and innovation.
I would like to acknowledge and thank ABHI and Dr. Nina Wilson for the continued leadership and commitment to advancing the women’s health agenda. By uniquely uniting clinicians, policymakers, industry leaders, and patient advocates, ABHI has built a vital ecosystem for real, actionable change. I am incredibly grateful to have contributed my reflection to this report, and I deeply appreciate ABHI’s unwavering commitment to keeping women’s health at the forefront of the national agenda.
Thank you to ABHI and everyone involved in producing this important report and for continuing to champion better outcomes for women and girls.”
