Dharini Mahendira Leads Care Across Pregnancy and Rheumatic Disease – RheumAcademy
RheumAcademy shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Meet our co-founder: Dr. Dharini Mahendira.
Dr. Mahendira is the Division Head of Rheumatology at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto, and Associate Professor in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Toronto. She also serves as the Program Director for Adult Rheumatology at U of T – shaping the training of the next generation of Canadian rheumatologists – and is one of the three co-founders of RheumAcademy.
A practising rheumatologist and clinician-teacher, Dr. Mahendira founded and directs the Rheumatic Diseases and Pregnancy Clinic at St. Michael’s Hospital – one of Canada’s specialized clinics dedicated to managing complex rheumatic disease through pregnancy and the reproductive continuum. Her clinical research in this area has been presented nationally and internationally.
She has been recognized for educational excellence with some of the most prestigious awards in Canadian rheumatology and academic medicine:
- Canadian Rheumatology Association ‘Emerging Teacher-Educator of the Year’
- University of Toronto ‘William Goldie Prize for Excellence in Medical Education’
- University of Toronto ‘Dr. Robert Sargeant Post-graduate Education Award’
Her national leadership extends to serving as Co-Chair of the CRA Postgraduate Education Sub-committee, Co-Lead of the CRA National Immunology Working Group, and a voting member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Rheumatology Specialty Committee.
Her philosophy is straightforward: the future of rheumatology care is interdisciplinary, and allied health professionals deserve training that matches the complexity of the patients they see.
That’s the foundation RheumAcademy was built on.”
