Sergio Haimovich: New episode of Hystero360 by Global Community of Hysteroscopy

Sergio Haimovich, Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at the AAGL Board of Directors, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“New episode of Hystero360 by Global Community of Hysteroscopy

In this episode, we discuss the evidence on intrauterine lidocaine for pain control during outpatient hysteroscopy.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 9 randomized controlled trials, including 1,045 patients, found that intrauterine lidocaine significantly reduces pain during hysteroscope insertion and during the first 10 minutes of recovery.

However, its analgesic effect appears to be transient, with no significant pain reduction observed during uterine distension, endometrial biopsy, or 30 minutes after the procedure.

Compared with rectal NSAIDs, intrauterine lidocaine showed similar analgesic efficacy, but was associated with higher patient satisfaction.

Key message: intrauterine lidocaine may be a safe and useful tool to improve initial procedural tolerance, but it should not be considered a stand-alone solution. Pain control in outpatient hysteroscopy requires a multimodal strategy adapted to the different stages of the procedure.”
