Yasmine Candau: I Was Once Only a Patient, Today I Put My Experience at the Service of Others
Yasmine Candau, Patient Partner and Endometriosis Expert, Former President of EndoFrance association, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“20 years ago, I was ‘only’ a patient.
Today, I have put my experience with the disease at the service of others…
As a patient who is an expert in DU training, I accompany patients in their journey: explaining, reassuring, passing on my experiential knowledge: everything I have not learned from books, but thanks to the experience of my disease.
- As a patient partner, I work with professionals to co-construct information for patients, improve practices and care pathways; I bring the vision of the field, the one you feel in your own body.
These two roles are often confused, but very complementary: - The expert patient accompanies the patients.
- The patient partner accompanies the caregivers.
If I have been involved for 20 years, it is to bridge the gap between theory and reality, where the voice of patients has been and can still really change everything.
And you, have you ever collaborated with a patient partner or a patient expert?”
