Caitlin Wyrwoll: New Insights on Maternal Health and Extreme Heat

Caitlin Wyrwoll, Associate Professor at The University of Western Australia, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published in Women and Birth:

“New Publication! There are ~200 epidemiological studies showing that heat exposure increases pregnancy complications. But what’s missing? The voices and lived experiences of pregnant people.

Our just-published systematic review reveals a striking gap: very few qualitative studies explore how pregnant people experience and respond to extreme heat. From the 16 articles identified, it’s clear:

  • We need culturally sensitive, context-specific public health interventions
  • We need place-based research to design practical, locally relevant solutions

This paper also marks the first publication from our Wellcome Trust-funded Extreme Heat and Pregnancy Complications (EHPC) project.

Huge congratulations to all authors, especially Frances Grimshaw, Rishu Thakur, and Supriya Mathew for leading this important review.

A fantastic way to close the year and an early Christmas present!
