New RBMO Study Suggests Ethnic and Genetic Differences May Influence Ovarian Stimulation Response

Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Ana Raquel Neves et al.:

”This new study from a team led by Nikolaos Polyzos investigates whether ovarian response and the distribution of genetic variants in genes involved in folliculogenesis and steroidogenesis differ according to patients’ ethnicity.

They found that response to exogenous FSH appears to differ between Southeast Asian and Caucasian normoresponders treated with a fixed stimulation protocol, noting that differences in the distribution of genetic variants involved in folliculogenesis and steroidogenesis may partly contribute to these findings.

Vietnamese patients required a shorter duration of stimulation, consumed less gonadotropin, and exhibited higher late follicular phase estradiol levels despite developing fewer follicles, while the number of oocytes retrieved was similar between groups.

The authors say their results provide a foundation for future pharmacogenetic research aimed at improving the individualization of ovarian stimulation strategies.”
