Lucile Ferreux: Male Fertility Must Be Taken Seriously as a Public Health Issue

Lucile Ferreux, Medical Director at Cesar Fertility, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by L. Priskorn et al. published in Human Reproduction:

“The spermatozoa, an indicator of public health.

This was the original hypothesis of Professor Georges David, founder of the CECOS, and it is what Professor Louis Bujan forcefully reminds us today: male fertility is a public health issue, which calls for clinical dialogue, medical examination and serious prevention.

Recent publications prove them right:

One in two men is involved in infertility in a couple. Life expectancy reduced by 2 to 3 years in the event of severe sperm alteration. A risk of hospitalization multiplied by 1.5. Data that goes far beyond the question of procreation: they speak of the overall health of young men.

However, systematic clinical examination is still too rare in France. Humans consult too late, or not at all, due to a lack of contact or prevention reflex.

This is where our role as doctors takes on its full meaning: to integrate male fertility into a global approach to health, and to give men an active role in their own prevention.

Cesar Fertility shared Lucile Ferreux’s post, adding:

“And the mission of Cesar Fertility makes sense to these worrying figures. Let’s act together, let’s reverse the trend!”
