Romain Corroenne: Systematic Review Explores Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Spina Bifida and Prenatal Repair Era

Romain Corroenne, Adjunct Assistant Professor – Department of Obstetrics at Baylor College of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper published in Journal of Neurosurgery:

“We are pleased to share our new article published in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics: ‘Systematic review of diffusion tensor imaging in spina bifida: clinical implications in the era of prenatal repair’.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is an advanced MRI technique that allows indirect assessment of white matter microstructure by studying water diffusion within brain tissue.

In spina bifida, brain involvement is not limited to ventriculomegaly or Chiari II deformation. Subtle white matter abnormalities may also affect neurodevelopment, cognition, and executive function.

In this review, we summarized the existing evidence on DTI findings in patient with spina bifida, highlighting abnormalities involving the corpus callosum, limbic pathways, cerebellar peduncles, internal capsule, temporal tracts, and other major white matter bundles.”
