IGCS Mourns the Loss of Professor Claes G. Tropé – A Pioneering Leader in Gynecologic Oncology

International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) shared on LinkedIn։

“IGCS mourns the loss of Professor Claes G. Tropé – Founding Member of IGCS and a pioneering leader in gynecologic oncology, who died on June 22, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in Sweden and later making Norway the center of much of his distinguished clinical and academic career, Professor Tropé helped advance gynecologic oncology as a specialty and contributed to important changes in the treatment of cervical, ovarian, and other gynecologic cancers. A clinician, researcher, educator, and mentor, he authored more than 600 scientific publications and trained and inspired generations of specialists.

For IGCS, Professor Tropé represented the spirit upon which our Society was founded: sharing knowledge, developing the next generation, and working together across borders to improve care for women with gynecologic cancers.

His influence lives on through the people he trained, the practices he helped change, and the global community he helped build.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
