Rajita Patil: 9-Step Blueprint to Help Institutions Build a Comprehensive Menopause Programs
Rajita Patil, Clinical Associate Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, shared on LinkedIn about a paper she co-authored with colleagues published in Obstetrics and Gynecology:
“The menopause care bottleneck will be solved by building better healthcare delivery systems.
It took nearly two years to build UCLA’s comprehensive menopause program that opened its doors in August 2023. One of the biggest lessons we learned, and one that was reinforced by my co-authors’ (Pelin Batur, Makeba Williams, Beri Ridgeway) experiences building programs across multiple health systems, is that the challenge is much bigger than a workforce shortage.
Many clinicians want to provide better menopause care and change the current status within their healthcare delivery system. Yet most are left trying to build programs from the ground up, often without a practical roadmap.
Meanwhile, demand continues to rise.
That’s why we wrote ‘Building a Comprehensive Menopause Program’ and developed a practical 9-step blueprint to help institutions expand access, build workforce capacity, create standardized workflows, and develop sustainable menopause programs regardless of starting resources.
You don’t need a large academic center.
You don’t need unlimited resources.
You need a starting point.
My hope is that this blueprint helps more institutions move from recognizing the problem to building solutions. Because every person with ovaries deserves access to high-quality, evidence-based menopause care.
