Devyanshi Dixit: Is Severe Period Pain Ever Just a Period?
Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, shared on LinkedIn:
“Every month, she disappeared for a few days.
Not because she wanted to.
Because the pain was so intense that getting out of bed felt impossible.
- She learned to cancel plans.
- She learned to miss work.
- She learned to smile when someone asked, ‘Are you okay?’
And every month, she heard the same words:
‘It’s just your period.’
But what if the pain she had learned to survive was actually a symptom asking to be heard?
Severe period pain should never become something a woman simply learns to live with.
Sometimes, behind that pain can be conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, or other pelvic disorders.
The first step isn’t always another painkiller.
Sometimes, it’s simply asking:
‘Why does my period hurt this much?’
- Don’t normalize her pain.
- Don’t dismiss her story.
- Listen. Investigate. Support.
Because a period may be monthly – but suffering through it shouldn’t be.
The 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health (GFWH 2026) brings together experts exploring advances in endometriosis, adenomyosis, menstrual health, pelvic pain, and precision gynecology.

Because ‘just a period’ should never be an explanation for a woman living in pain.”
