Devyanshi Dixit: Can Chronic Pelvic Pain Change the Brain?
Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, shared on LinkedIn:
“She was told, ‘The scan doesn’t look that bad.’
But her pain was.
Month after month, she learned to plan her life around it.
Pain interrupted her sleep.
Sleep affected her energy.
Stress made the pain feel worse.
And slowly, even a small sensation could feel overwhelming.
So what was happening?
Chronic pain doesn’t simply stay where it begins.
When pain signals continue for a long time, the nervous system can become more sensitive – a process researchers call central sensitization.
The brain begins to process pain differently.
This is one reason why endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and other persistent pain conditions can become far more complex than what a scan alone can show.
It doesn’t mean the pain is ‘in her head.’
It means her brain has become part of the pain story.
And that changes an important question:
Instead of asking only:
‘Where is the pain coming from?’
Perhaps we should also ask:
‘What has the pain changed?’
Because understanding chronic pelvic pain may require us to look beyond the pelvis – and into the brain, nervous system, and the way they communicate.
At GFWH 2026, this emerging intersection of chronic pelvic pain, neuroscience and gynecology will be given a huge global stage – bringing researchers and clinicians together to explore where the science is heading and what it could mean for women living with persistent pain.

The conversation is no longer only about where pain begins.
It’s also about what pain can change.”
