Devyanshi Dixit: Ovarian Cancer Doesn’t Always Announce Itself

“Ovarian Cancer Doesn’t Always Announce Itself. That’s the Problem.

Some cancers give an obvious warning.

Ovarian cancer can be different.

Its early symptoms may be subtle, intermittent, and nonspecific – bloating, pelvic or abdominal discomfort, feeling full sooner than usual, or changes in urinary or bowel habits.

The biology makes early detection even harder.

There is no effective routine screening test for ovarian cancer in women at average risk.
Different ovarian cancer subtypes behave differently, meaning one biomarker or detection strategy may not work for every patient.
Researchers are therefore looking beyond traditional approaches – toward circulating tumor DNA, protein biomarkers, liquid biopsy, molecular profiling, advanced imaging, and AI-assisted pattern recognition.

But the biggest challenge remains:

Can we identify the molecular fingerprints of ovarian cancer before symptoms become obvious?

That could mean moving from detecting established disease to detecting biological change earlier.

And that shift could transform gynecologic oncology.

At GFWH 2026, advances in ovarian cancer biology, early detection, biomarkers, molecular diagnostics, AI, and precision oncology will be given a global stage.
