Aumatma Simmons: 2 Methods for Accurate Fertility Tracking
Aumatma Simmons, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer at Madre Fertility, shared on LinkedIn:
”The ‘day 14’ rule for conception timing is based on a flawed assumption: a perfect 28-day cycle.
For accurate fertility tracking, two methods provide a complete picture:
- Cervical mucus monitoring predicts ovulation before it happens – fertile, egg-white mucus appears 2-3 days prior
- Basal body temperature (BBT) confirms ovulation has occurred, via a post-ovulatory rise driven by progesterone
The true fertile window includes the 2-3 days before ovulation plus the day of ovulation itself, since sperm can survive 3-5 days in fertile mucus while the egg is viable for only 12-24 hours.
Clinically, timing alone isn’t enough. Optimal conception odds require addressing underlying hormonal imbalances, egg quality, and inflammation alongside accurate cycle tracking.”
