Lucy Froese: I Spent 36 Months Struggling to Get Pregnant Before IVF Gave Me My Daughter

Lucy Froese, Fertility and IVF Coach, shared on LinkedIn:

“I spent 36 months struggling to get pregnant.

And somewhere along the way, trying to have a baby took over my life.

Every month, when my period arrived, I felt that same crushing disappointment.

Another month. Another chance gone. And still no pregnancy.

I started feeling anxious about seeing friends and going to social events.

I dreaded the questions.

‘When are you going to have a baby?’

‘Are you thinking about starting a family?’

Harmless questions to the person asking. Incredibly painful when you’re desperate to become a mum.

I worried about my relationship too.

What would happen to us if we couldn’t have a baby? What would our future look like?

So I kept trying to fix things.

Looking for answers. Searching for something else I could do or change that might finally make it happen.

But the harder I tried, the more exhausted I became.

And being told we had unexplained infertility only added to the frustration.

Because how do you fix something when nobody can tell you what’s wrong?

Then I found a fertility coach.

For the first time, I felt like I was talking to someone who really understood how much this was affecting me.

She helped me work through my anxiety about social situations and those difficult questions.

And helped me understand that accepting our unexplained infertility didn’t mean giving up on having a baby.

It meant accepting that I didn’t know how or when it would happen.

And that I didn’t have to put my whole life on hold while I waited.

I started making plans again. Going on holidays. Enjoying time with friends.

I was still desperate to become a mum, but I was allowing myself to live again.

That support also helped me feel ready to take the next step.

IVF. Something I’d been frightened of.

At 37, my first IVF cycle gave me my daughter.

But looking back, one of the biggest turning points happened long before that positive pregnancy test.

It was finding someone who helped me feel like myself again.

And that’s a huge part of why I became a fertility coach.

Because I know what it’s like when trying to have a baby takes over your life.

When you’re exhausted from searching for answers and frightened of what the future might hold.

But you can start feeling better before you get that positive pregnancy test.

And you don’t have to work through all of this on your own.

If trying to conceive has started taking over your life, let’s talk.
