Demián Glujovsky: What Happens to Fertility Patients Between Visits?

Demián Glujovsky, Medical Director at Luuma and Scientific Director of CEGYR, shared on LinkedIn:

“Next week I’m in Baltimore for ASRM 2026 as Scientific Director of CEGYR (Eugin Group).

I’m arriving with one question: what do we know about what happens to a patient between one visit and the next?
Not much.

We know that around 36% of patients discontinue fertility treatment (Shen et al., 2026; 62 studies, 330,593 patients). We know far less about how that decision takes shape, because it is usually made far from the clinic. Psychological burden is among the most frequently reported reasons (Gameiro et al., Human Reproduction Update, 2012).

We recently argued in RBMO that IVF has pointed AI at the embryology lab while discontinuation goes unmeasured (link in the first comment). At CEGYR we’re starting to act on that: we are running a first pilot with LUUMA, a startup I co-founded, to better understand and support patients between visits.

At the ASRM meeting, I’m looking for:

  • Evidence on the patient experience during treatment.
  • Physicians and researchers interested in this question.
  • Clinics willing to measure discontinuation and join multicentre research on it.

What still needs to be studied: which variables help us anticipate discontinuation, and whether AI can help care teams intervene more effectively and at the right time.

If you’re in Baltimore, message me and let’s meet at a coffee break. If not, let’s set up a video call.

Fertility treatment continues between visits. So should the science.”
