Robert Borowczyk: What Happens After a Failed IVF Cycle?
Robert Borowczyk, Founder and CEO of Irresist, shared on LinkedIn:
“38% of surveyed patients who switched IVF clinics cited poor communication.
After a failed cycle, even a well-meant follow-up can come at the wrong time.
The number comes from an October 2026 analysis by IVF Media.
Its survey included 611 people from 59 countries who had experienced at least one failed IVF cycle.
Among the 247 who had used more than one clinic, 38% selected Poor Communication as a reason for switching.
The survey was self-selected, so the 38% describes its respondents.
I would start with the clinic’s follow-up record after an unsuccessful cycle.
A cycle outcome can be entered into the medical record. A clinician might have explained the result.
Yet the working record may still OMIT who should offer a later review, when that offer is due, or whether the patient has asked for a pause.
Without those details, a careful coordinator may be left guessing.
A new call might reach someone who asked for space. Or a person expecting a review offer might hear nothing.
Neither outcome can be read from the cycle result alone.
As an engineer, I would keep four non-clinical details visible:
- human owner,
- follow-up date,
- whether a review was offered,
- and whether the patient requested a pause.
A decline or opt-out should end the outreach.
Clinical explanations stay with qualified professionals. The administrative record should help the team make an appropriate human offer, without turning a painful moment into a sales sequence.
What’s hardest to keep clear after a failed IVF cycle at your clinic:
Who should offer a review or whether the patient asked for space?”
