‘How does pure mental worry trigger the violent physical attack of a cluster headache? We brush off stress as just an emotion, but it actively rewires your internal chemistry.
Take a woman overwhelmed by financial stress. Suddenly, she is struck by intense pain traveling from the back of her neck to her forehead. This isn’t ordinary mental fatigue. It’s a violent chemical event happening inside her brain.
Prolonged psychological tension forces the brain to release a continuous flood of stress hormones, dumping them straight into the bloodstream. But how do simple chemical messengers create a crushing physical force in your head?
Because these specific hormones directly target the blood vessels in your brain, they physically alter the blood flow, creating a severe pulsating pressure on one side of the head. That extreme vascular reaction is what we call a cluster headache.
