Dina Ibrahem: Aneuploid Yesterday, Euploid Today?
Dina Ibrahem, Embryologist at Queens Fertility Center, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by R. Erberelli et al., published in Reproductive BioMedicine Online.
“Aneuploid Yesterday, Euploid Today?
At the recent GANNA-DIRMAS Conference, something interesting came up during Mohamed Elzayat’s PGT-A lecture!
He raised an interesting question:
‘If an embryo is aneuploid in the first biopsy but euploid in the second, which result would you trust?’
Mohamed Fawzy had an optimistic answer:
‘I’d go with the euploid one!’
Another interesting suggestion came up:
Why not take a third biopsy to help settle the disagreement?
And guess what? I came across a paper that immediately reminded me of this discussion!
Researchers extended the culture of initially aneuploid embryos to Day 12.
8 out of 43 embryos (18.6%) showed a euploid profile on rebiopsy!
But here’s the interesting part…
Was it embryo self-correction, or simply mosaicism and sampling differences?
Of course, a different biopsy result doesn’t necessarily mean the embryo corrected itself.
Still, it makes that conference discussion even more interesting!
Mohamed Elzayat and Mohamed Fawzy, looks like this conversation deserves a second round!”
