Ashley Evans: Let’s Make Fertility Unfiltered This World Fertility Day
Ashley Evans, Infertility Advocacy Speaker at ACE Origins, shared on LinkedIn:
“Today is World Fertility Day and the start of European Fertility Week and National Fertility Awareness Week (NFAW), and the year’s theme is Fertility Unfiltered.
I think that’s quite fitting because there is so much about fertility and infertility that we don’t talk about.
We talk about pregnancy announcements, positive tests and the happy endings, but what about everything that happens in between?
For many, the uncertainty, the investigations, the waiting, the treatment, the disappointment and the decisions that aren’t always straightforward.
The impact it has on relationships, your mental health, your identity and sometimes even how you see your future.
And what about the people who don’t get the outcome they hoped for?
Fertility isn’t always a straightforward journey. It doesn’t look the same for everyone, and it certainly doesn’t end for everyone in the same way.
I know from my own experience how isolating it can feel. I also know how difficult it can be to talk about something that so many people still don’t fully understand.
That’s a big part of why I started ACE Origins. I want to help bring infertility out of the shadows, challenge some of the assumptions we make and encourage conversations that perhaps we wouldn’t otherwise have.
But we don’t need to have experienced infertility ourselves to be more understanding, more compassionate or simply more thoughtful about the things we say or to understand the complexities of fertility.
So this week, let’s talk about fertility. All of it. Not just the bits that are easier to hear.
Let’s make fertility unfiltered.
Follow along this week for more posts and head over to Fertility Action/Katie Rollings, who has continued the legacy of NFAW and there will be loads more they will be sharing on their page, along with ways to support them.”
