Predicting Male-Factor Miscarriage Risk Using dsDNA Fragmentation Analysis – Reproductive BioMedicine Online

“This new research article from Andrew Drakeley and colleagues presents an approach for predicting male-factor miscarriage risk by utilising the Extend neutral comet assay.
Now able to differentiate between ssSDF and dsSDF, these findings suggest that the inclusion of dsDNA fragmentation analysis in the diagnostic workup of couples experiencing recurrent miscarriage is warranted.
A complete male history, physical examination, and appropriate investigative work-up should be a prerequisite undertaking for a couple presenting with a history of recurrent miscarriage. Whilst lifestyle advice and antioxidant therapy may be sufficient for some, other men require more extensive investigation and individualised treatment. A normal standard semen analysis does not exclude underlying SDF.
