Carl Petrus Linge: Study Identifies New Antibody Linked to Thrombosis Risk in SLE

Carl Petrus Linge, Specialist in Rheumatology at Region Skåne, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Thrombosis is a major clinical problem in SLE, not fully explained by antiphospholipid antibodies.

In our study, now published in Haematologica, we report:

  • Anti-glycoprotein V (GPV) antibodies independently associated with thrombotic events in SLE
  • C3 independently associated with thrombosis in multivariable Cox regression analyses

These findings support previously unrecognized platelet-complement and platelet-directed antibody mechanisms contributing to thrombotic risk beyond APS pathways.
