Join the Maternal, Child, and Youth Working Group for this webinar on April 9, 2026, at 10:00 pm (GMT +11) 5.30pm IST
Women’s reproductive health challenges—including endometriosis, infertility and menopausal symptoms—significantly affect global morbidity, economic participation and quality of life. These impacts are intensified by persistent health inequities, fragmented services and limited access to culturally grounded care.
With more than 80% of the world’s population using some form of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM), there is growing recognition of the need to integrate TCIM into health systems in ways that are safe, evidence-informed and respectful of cultural and Indigenous knowledge. This aligns with the World Health Organization Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025–2034, which emphasises evidence generation, regulatory strengthening, system integration and equity.
Hosted by the World Federation of Public Health Associations Women, Children and Youth Working Group, the webinar will open with a KEYNOTE ADDRESS from Dr Shyama Kuruvilla, Director ai. of the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre, who will provide global context on the intersection of TCIM and women’s health.
The session will then highlight research and policy innovation across the lifespan:
– Sophia Gerontakos (Southern Cross University, Australia): TCIM-integrated models of care for endometriosis.
– Lerato Mpobane (University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa): Traditional Health Practitioners’ approaches to female infertility and policy considerations.
– A/Prof Lisa Taylor-Swanson (University of Utah, USA): TCIM approaches to supporting women during menopause and healthy ageing.
Professor Amie Steel (Southern Cross University, Australia) will facilitate a concluding panel discussion on policy directions, system integration and future opportunities for TCIM-aligned public health innovation.
