Sujoy Dasgupta: Fertility Preservation in Children Receiving Gonadotoxic Therapies

Sujoy Dasgupta, Director of Clinical Services at Genome The Fertility Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Cancer treatment in men especially chemotherapy, radiation to genitals, groin, lower abdomen and rectum and some surgery for testicular tumour often affects the capacity to reproduce. Fertility preservation is possible before cancer treatment by collecting sperms and freezing them so that the affected man can become biological father even after completing cancer treatment. However, sperm freezing poses a challenge in young boys who cannot produce semen or cannot masturbate.

Here is the  European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) ‘Good practice recommendations on fertility preservation involving testicular tissue cryopreservation in children receiving gonadotoxic therapies’.
