Simvastatin as a Potential Breakthrough Therapy – Reed Biotech LTD
Reed Biotech LTD shared a post on LinkedIn:
“New Research Alert!
Excited to share this impactful study from Shandong University, published in Advanced Healthcare Materials (IF=9.6), exploring simvastatin as a promising therapeutic for obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome (OAPS)!
Using a placenta-on-a-chip model + in vivo experiments, the team found that simvastatin:
- Alleviates maternal vascular inflammation
- Restores abnormal uteroplacental hemodynamics
- Promotes trophoblast invasion and spiral artery remodeling
- Improves placental perfusion
Mechanistically, these effects are mediated via activating the KLF2/eNOS signaling pathway in vascular endothelial cells.
This work highlights simvastatin as a potential candidate for treating refractory OAPS—great progress for reproductive medicine!
