Effects of Air Pollution on Live Birth and Ovarian Response – RBMO

Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This new study evaluates the effects of one year’s exposure to ambient air pollution on live birth and ovarian response in women undergoing frozen embryo transfer (FET), using the European air quality limit values in 2030 (LV2030).

This is the first observational cohort study to assess the effect of exposure to pollutants on the probability of live birth according to these new European limits.

The author team of Améline Crouzat, Marion Cremoni, Samir Alexandre Boukaidi, Barbara Seitz-Polski, and Pierre-Alexis Gauci, found that chronic exposure to air pollutants in the year preceding FET was independently associated with lower odds of live birth success. In contrast, no significant reduction in odds of live birth was observed during the year preceding oocyte retrieval, regardless of whether exposure was modelled as a threshold or continuous variable.

These results highlight that compliance with European limit values may contribute to improved reproductive outcomes.

The paper is published open access, available to read in full from our April issue ahead of publication, now.”
