Aïda Pujol Masana: For Many Years, I Thought My Work Was Only about Helping to Create Embryos

Aïda Pujol Masana, Founder of Aïda Embryologist, Clarity and Calm in Embryology and IVF laboratory Director at NatuVitro, shared on LinkedIn:

“For many years, I thought my work as an embryologist was about helping to create embryos. Over time, I realised it is also about helping people make decisions.

Science is at the heart of assisted reproduction. But science does not always provide a single answer for every situation.

Sometimes more than one approach may be reasonable.

When that happens, evidence remains fundamental. Yet evidence alone is not enough. Patients also bring their own values, priorities and life circumstances.

This is where shared decision-making becomes essential.

As healthcare professionals, our role is not only to apply scientific knowledge.

It is also to help people understand their options, navigate uncertainty and participate in decisions that may shape one of the most important journeys of their lives.

Because personalised care is not only about choosing the right technique. It is also about helping each person understand which option makes the most sense for them. Helping people understand is also part of caring.

A reflection from inside the IVF laboratory.”
