Devyanshi Dixit։ Could Menstrual Blood Become a Diagnostic Tool?

Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, shared on LinkedIn:

“Could Menstrual Blood Become a Diagnostic Tool?

What if something traditionally viewed as a monthly biological process could become a window into women’s health?

Researchers are increasingly studying menstrual blood as a potential source of biomarkers—because it contains more than blood.

 What can it contain?

  • Endometrial cells and tissue fragments
  • Immune cells
  • DNA and RNA
  • Proteins and inflammatory molecules
  • Hormonal and metabolic signals

 Why does this matter?

Researchers are investigating whether menstrual blood could eventually provide clues about conditions such as:

  • Endometriosis
  • Endometrial disorders
  • Reproductive health conditions
  • Inflammation and immune responses
  • Potential molecular signatures of disease

The biggest attraction?

It could offer a non-invasive, repeatable way to study biology that is otherwise difficult to access.

But there is an important distinction:

Menstrual-blood diagnostics are still an emerging research field. They are not yet a replacement for established diagnostic tests.

The future question is fascinating:

Could the menstrual cycle become a monthly source of health information?

From symptoms – samples – biomarkers – personalized care, menstrual blood could potentially open an entirely new chapter in precision gynecology.

The 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health (GFWH 2026) brings together researchers and healthcare professionals exploring emerging advances in gynecology, reproductive medicine, diagnostics, and women’s health innovation.

  • November 23 – 24, 2026
  • Bangkok, Thailand

Sometimes, the next diagnostic breakthrough may be hiding in something we’ve overlooked for generations.”
