Chloe Tran: Egg Freezing: An Effective Tool or False Security?
Chloe Tran, Gynecologist-Obstetrician specializing in fertility at Pierre Rouquès Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Government measures on infertility: inform, yes. To deceive, no.
The government’s announcement on the management of infertility is clearly a step in the right direction:
- send information to French women at 29 years old,
- Expand access to egg freezing,
- improve the management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis
Informing women, giving them the keys to understanding their fertility and anticipating is essential. And we must welcome this desire for prevention, but pay attention to one fundamental point:
Egg freezing should never be presented as a guarantee of pregnancy. It must not become a false safety net that would lead to delaying a parental project in the belief that it is ‘protected’ by vitrification.
Another major issue is the means.
In a context where the centres are already saturated and the deadlines are sometimes untenable, this preservation strategy can only be effective if it is accompanied by human, material and organisational resources that are equal to the stated ambitions.
Finally, it is crucial to remember that not everyone is destined to enter this path.
Egg freezing must remain a targeted prevention tool, to identify and support women for whom this option is the most relevant.
Thank you to RMC for the interview with La Maison de la Fertilité and the space given to these subjects, which allows us to highlight these measures, but also to discuss their limits and conditions for success.”
