Ashok Yadav: Can Frequent Ejaculation Reduce the Risk of Prostate Cancer?
Ashok Yadav, Biology faculty at Apex Academy, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“While frequent ejaculation is linked to a lower risk of prostate cancer, it is not a ‘magic number’ or a medical requirement for everyone. This figure comes from a large, long-term Harvard University study that followed nearly 32,000 men over 18 years.
Key findings from the research include:
- Reduced Risk: Men who reported ejaculating 21 or more times per month had approximately a 20% to 33% lower risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer compared to those who reported only 4 to 7 times monthly.
Ages of Benefit: The study observed these benefits in men during their 20s and 40s, with some evidence suggesting the protective effect may be even stronger for men aged 50 and older - The ‘Flushing’ Theory: Scientists hypothesize that regular ejaculation may help ‘flush’ the prostate of potentially cancer-causing toxins and inflammatory agents that can accumulate in the prostatic fluid.
- Method Doesn’t Matter: The frequency counts included all forms of ejaculation, whether through sexual intercourse, masturbation, or nocturnal emissions.
Important Context:
Medical experts at the Mayo Clinic and other institutions caution that this research shows an association, not a direct cause-and-effect proof. Other factors such as genetics, diet, and general lifestyle habits also play critical roles in prostate health. For instance, a diet low in red meat and high in vegetables, regular exercise, and not smoking are also strongly recommended.”
