Margaret Cali: Before IVF Begins, a Lot of Preparation Happens…
Margaret Cali, IVF Readiness Integration Strategist, shared on LinkedIn:
“Before IVF begins, a lot of preparation happens.
Her body is tested and monitored.
Her finances are planned.
Her calendar is cleared for appointments.
Her medications are ordered and explained.
On paper, she may look ready.
But often, no one has asked how she will cope with the waiting.
The phone calls.
The results.
The days that don’t go to plan.
That matters.
Not because emotional readiness will change her result. It won’t.
And not because she needs to feel calm before she starts.
But because the emotional toll of treatment is one of the most commonly reported reasons people stop IVF. Often, it isn’t only their bodies or their test results. It’s how hard it feels to keep going.
If preparation only covers the clinical and practical side, we may miss the part of her that has to get through it.
That is one reason I believe emotional preparation should include space to ask:
What is she carrying into this treatment?
What might the hardest moments be for her?
Who will support her when they come?
For those working in fertility care:
When a woman starts IVF, how is her emotional preparation part of the plan?”
