Simon Lumsdon։ Nobody Comes to IVF Wanting Eggs or Embryos – They Want a Baby…

Simon Lumsdon, Director of Lighthouse Fertility, shared on LinkedIn։

“Egg banks sell eggs. Some now guarantee a blastocyst. But nobody comes to IVF wanting eggs or embryos. They want a baby.

A recent Fertility and Sterility debate (love the Sunday pod guys!) on fresh versus frozen donor eggs made a sharp point: a guaranteed blastocyst says nothing about its quality. The only guarantee that really protects a patient is a live birth.

Many leaders in our field have argued that IVF should stop selling cycles and start selling outcomes. Donor eggs could be where that starts. Young, screened donors make it the most predictable segment in the field, and predictability is what makes outcome pricing possible.

At its heart, this is about managing risk. The less variation in how each patient’s journey is handled, the easier that risk is to understand and share. At FertilAI, we standardise key clinical decisions in the IVF journey, making outcomes more reproducible and giving clinics a stronger foundation for shared risk models.”
