ASCO26 Research Flags Elevated Maternal Mortality Risk in Pregnant Women With Myeloproliferative Neoplasms – Hematology Advisor
Hematology Advisor shared a post on LinkedIn:
“New research from ASCO26 shows higher maternal mortality rates for pregnant women diagnosed with myeloproliferative neoplasms MPNs.
The physiological hypercoagulability of pregnancy, compounded by MPN-driven erythrocytosis or thrombocytosis, severely amplifies the risk of life-threatening events across all trimesters and the postpartum window.
Key Areas for Clinical Vigilance:
- Thrombotic and Vascular Burden: Marked increase in deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, splanchnic vein thrombosis, and stroke.
- Obstetric Pathologies: Higher baseline incidence of placental insufficiency, preeclampsia, early miscarriage, and stillbirth.
- Hemostatic Paradox: Concurrent elevation in bleeding risks, notably postpartum hemorrhage, requiring careful titration of antiplatelet or anticoagulant agents.
