Albert Irkaliev: Peptides and the Future of ART

Albert Irkaliev, Reproductologist at SILK Medical, shared on LinkedIn:

“Waiting for my flight to another conference, I found myself thinking about the future of reproductive medicine.

Around me were people of different ages, travelling between countries and sharing fragments of their lives in different languages. It reminded me how varied our patients’ journeys are – and how often the wish to become a parent crosses borders.

A question stayed with me: what more might we be able to offer patients in the years ahead?

One area that interests me is the potential role of peptide therapies in fertility care. My interest is also personal: I use a peptide-based treatment for weight management and have seen weight loss myself. That experience has prompted questions, although it cannot answer whether these treatments improve reproductive outcomes.

In the attached article, I explore three directions:

  • Metabolic preparation before IVF.
  • Kisspeptin and the control of oocyte maturation.
  • Experimental mitochondrial peptides and their possible future applications.

I also discuss the gaps between promising mechanisms, early research and treatments supported by clinical evidence.

As a reproductive medicine specialist, I want to understand which approaches could eventually improve the chance of having a healthy baby – and how we can investigate them responsibly.

Sometimes, the questions we take to a conference begin before we board the plane.

I would welcome colleagues’ perspectives: where do you see the most promising future role for peptides in reproductive medicine?”
