Christopher Robinson, Associate Professor of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of South Carolina and Executive Chair of the Foundation for the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Sarah P. Walker et al. published in AJOG:

“Reducing the long-term impact of cesarean scar defects: a focus on prevention – Ultrasound images of scar and cesarean scar defects

  • (A) Transvaginal ultrasound image of lower uterine segment scars (arrows) at 6 weeks of gestation after 3 cesarean deliveries with the lower incision, closer to the internal os of the cervix (Cx) corresponding to the first cesarean delivery performed as an emergency at 9 cm dilatation;
  • (B) transvaginal ultrasound image of a small cesarean scar defect (∗) following the repair of a LUS dehiscence with removal of the scar tissue during the fourth CD;
  • (C) transabdominal ultrasound image of a 21-mm gap in the anterior uterine wall (∗) at 15 weeks of gestation after 2 prior cesarean deliveries;
  • (D) transvaginal ultrasound image of a large cesarean scar defect (∗) containing heterogeneous fluid suggesting blood (arrows) after 3 cesarean deliveries in a patient presenting with recurrent intermenstrual bleeding.”
