Somya Jha։ ICSI – 1 Sperm, 1 Egg, 1 Tiny Needle
Somya Jha, Intern at Medtech Fixaters, shared on LinkedIn:
“1 Sperm, 1 Egg, 1 Tiny Needle
Did you know IVF can involve an embryologist injecting a single sperm directly into an egg?
This technique is called ICSI – Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection.
Normally, sperm have to reach and enter the egg themselves.
With ICSI, an embryologist carefully selects a sperm and uses a microscopic injection needle to place it directly inside the egg.
Normal fertilization:
Sperm – reaches egg – enters egg
ICSI:
One selected sperm – microscopic needle – directly into egg
And then comes the incredible part…
If fertilization occurs successfully, that single egg can begin the journey toward becoming an embryo.
One cell. One sperm. One microscopic procedure – and potentially the beginning of a new life.
This is where embryology meets precision technology.”
