Fiona Pathiraja-Møller: Women with PMOS Face 4 Times Higher Risk of Cardiovascular Disease
Fiona Pathiraja-Møller, Managing Partner at Crista Galli Ventures, shared on LinkedIn about a paper by Snigdha Alur-Gupta et al. published in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Women’s Health:
”What if 1 in 10 women had a condition linked to 4x the cardiovascular risk but most didn’t know they had it?
A new study shows women with PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome) face a 4x higher risk of cardiovascular disease. But the context behind the condition matters
In May, PCOS became PMOS. The old name focused on cysts and ovaries. The new one recognises a complex, full-body metabolic condition.
PMOS affects around 1 in 10 women, but up to 70% don’t realise they have it. A mix of confusion, care gaps, and how differently the condition presents across women.
The real barrier is recognising who’s at risk
Protecting women’s cardiovascular health starts with better PMOS screening and diagnosis.
Research like this narrows the gender health gap. Closing it means turning new findings into care.”
