Ashley Evans։ Infertility Might Have Given Me the Reason to Start Talking

“My story is the reason I started, but it isn’t the reason I continue.

Infertility is a huge part of my story, and it changed me. It changed how I saw myself, my relationships, my career, and the world around me.

But the more I talk about it, the more I realise that this work isn’t just about infertility. It’s about what happens when people are going through something life-changing, while everyone around them carries on as normal.

It’s about the things we don’t see.

The colleague who is struggling but hasn’t told anyone.
The person sitting in a meeting after receiving difficult news that morning.
The employee using annual leave for another appointment because they don’t feel comfortable explaining why.
The person who is smiling, getting on with their work, and quietly falling apart behind the scenes.

I want to do this work because I don’t think people should have to choose between their personal experiences and their professional lives.

I want to help create workplaces where conversations are easier.

Where managers feel more confident supporting people.

Where compassion isn’t dependent on someone having to disclose every detail of what they’re going through.

And where we stop assuming that if someone looks okay, they are okay.

Infertility might have given me the reason to start talking.

But it’s the bigger conversation about people, compassion, inclusion and the experiences we don’t always see that makes me want to keep going.

That’s why I speak.

That’s why I advocate.

That’s why I created ACE Origins.

Because I don’t just want to tell my story.

I want to use it to help change what happens next.
