Devyanshi Dixit: Why Do Vaginal Infections Keep Coming Back?
Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication and Conference Manager at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health, shared on LinkedIn:
”Why Do Vaginal Infections Keep Coming Back?
The infection clears. The symptoms disappear. Then, weeks later, they return.
But what if the real issue isn’t simply the infection itself?
Your vaginal microbiome matters.
Changes in the balance of vaginal bacteria can contribute to bacterial vaginosis (BV). In some cases, bacterial biofilms may help organisms persist and contribute to recurrence.
Not every infection is the same.
Yeast infections, BV, and other conditions can cause similar symptoms – but require different treatments. Repeated symptoms don’t always mean the original infection has returned.
Your habits can play a role.
Douching and fragranced intimate products may irritate sensitive tissue and disrupt the vaginal environment.
The most important step?
If symptoms keep returning, seek medical assessment and appropriate testing instead of repeatedly self-treating. The right diagnosis is the starting point for the right treatment.
Because recurrence is not just a symptom to suppress – it’s a reason to investigate.
